Recall Engine, AMBOSS, and UWorld: which fits faculty exams?
We compare three question banks for the exams your faculty sets.
The short answer. For USMLE and other board exams, pick AMBOSS or UWorld: both are large, mature banks built for those exams. UWorld also sells a Preclinical QBank "for Year 1 and 2 medical students" and a Clinical QBank "for Years 3 to 5 of medical school". Recall Engine is built for faculty exams: it pairs a question bank for all five years of medical school that follows its source lectures with a generator that makes questions from your own lecture files.

We make Recall Engine. Weigh this accordingly.
What each one is
AMBOSS
AMBOSS is a medical library plus a Qbank. Its international pricing page sells a "Qbank for USMLE, IFOM (EN/ES), MCCQE, SMLE, PNA & more". A membership includes the library and "50 questions a month to learn exam taking skills". Full Qbank access is a paid upgrade on top. AMBOSS also says its Qbank serves medical school exams: "The same Qbank and Library serve your in-house exams, filtered by system, subject, or your school's curriculum."
UWorld
UWorld Medical calls itself "the standard for licensure and board exam preparation". Its home page lists USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, Step 3, COMLEX, ABFM, ABIM, PANCE, PANRE, and MCAT. It also sells two QBanks for students outside the US. The Preclinical QBank is for "Year 1 and Year 2 medical students". The Clinical QBank is for "Years 3 to 5 of medical school". UWorld describes the Clinical QBank as "not tailored to any one exam".
Recall Engine
Recall Engine is a medical question bank for all five years of medical school. It is organised by stage and discipline so you can follow your term. It holds 31,840 questions, 1,512 topic notes, and 343 clinical skills guides across 1,739 topics (counted 28 Oct 2026). Library content follows its source lectures and is reviewed under clinician oversight.
It also has a generator. Upload a lecture PDF or PowerPoint up to 100 MB and get SBAs, MCQs, flashcards, and notes from the pages you pick. Each set links back to its source pages.

Is Recall Engine cheaper?
We do not answer that with a converted number. AMBOSS and UWorld publish prices with a $ sign. Recall Engine publishes its prices from the same settings its checkout uses. Egyptian pound prices are for buyers in Egypt. US dollar prices are for everyone else. Plan lengths differ too. AMBOSS bills monthly or yearly. UWorld sells fixed access periods. Recall Engine plans run for a set period and do not renew by themselves.
Compare the rows above for the plan length you need in your own currency. Then check each price on its own page before you pay.
When to pick AMBOSS or UWorld
Pick one of them when any of these is true. We mean it.
- You are preparing for USMLE or another board exam. That is what both companies built their main banks for. UWorld says its Step 1 questions are "at or above exam-level difficulty". AMBOSS says its Step 1 vignettes "match the length, format, and reasoning of the real Step 1".
- You want a large general bank for your preclinical or clinical years. UWorld's Preclinical QBank says it helps students prepare for "end-of-year exams". Its Clinical QBank holds "2,250+" practice questions for Years 3 to 5.
- You want a score estimate before a board exam. AMBOSS sells a Step 1 Self-Assessment of "160 timed questions in the NBME format" that ends with "a three-digit score". UWorld's longer Step 1 plans include self-assessments.
- You want scale. Both banks publish counts in the thousands for each major exam. They also run large article libraries. UWorld adds "500+ on-demand companion videos" on some plans.
- You want mature analytics. AMBOSS adapts sessions to the topics you need most and carries your Step 1 progress into Step 2 CK. UWorld tracks performance by subject and system.
- You want a native app that works offline. AMBOSS offers this. UWorld runs on iOS and Android. Recall Engine runs in the browser.
- You want years of polish. UWorld's own page dates its licensing-exam work to 2003.
- You study in French, Spanish, or Portuguese. UWorld's international QBanks offer "multilingual translation options".
If you plan to sit USMLE later, AMBOSS suggests starting Step 1 prep "as early as possible". A faculty bank does not replace a board bank.
When Recall Engine fits better
- Your next exam is a faculty exam. The bank is organised by stage and discipline. You can practise the term you are in without a board-exam frame around it.
- You want practice from the exact lecture you will be examined on. The generator works from your own file and points each set back to its pages. Only you can see your lectures and study sets.
- You want notes and clinical skills guides in the same place. The library holds 1,512 topic notes and 343 guides for history taking, examination, and OSCE stations.
- You want to pay in Egyptian pounds. Egyptian pound prices are for buyers in Egypt. US dollar prices are for everyone else. One payment covers 30 or 365 days and never renews by itself.
Library questions and notes are written for exam study and are not clinical guidance. Where they differ from your course, follow your course.
What Recall Engine does not do
- It is not a USMLE or PLAB board question bank.
- There is no native mobile app today. It runs in the phone's browser.
- The interface is in English.
Can you use both?
Yes. A student who plans to sit USMLE can keep a board bank for that goal. The same student can use Recall Engine for the faculty exam in front of them.
